Review: Fruit Shoot for Android

This is a free game that has graced our Androids for a fair bit of time now. With more than 250, 000 downloads it is getting to be more and more popular and many people recognize the simplistic flash game layout.

The aim of the game is a simple but addictive one. You are the bowman, one with a strange purple hat, blue tank top and comically held bow, and your aim is to shoot the piece of fruit from the head of a friend. Leaving your finger pressed on the screen allows you increase the power level of your shot and moving the finger into different places on the screen changes the flight path of the arrow. If you do manage to avoid the hilarious reactions to bodily impalements from your arrow, and actually do hit the apple, you move slowly backwards in steps of 5/10 feet, making it harder to hit the apple.

I think that the game is quite good. The main advantage of it is that many people already recognize the ‘bowman-ish’ style from the popular online computer game and they will see this game as another spin off of it. The design makes it familiar and easy to use, however, it could be said that this design has been overused and that this is just another spin off. I do also agree with this statement and I think that they could have chosen a less generic template for an app that can be a lot of fun.

Install if:
  • You like other ragdoll or bowman style games
  • Archery
  • You like simple entertainment that you can play on the bus in the morning

Don’t install if:
  • You’re looking for a long, interesting game
  • You need good graphics and perfect controls to enjoy a game
  • You have Android V. ≤2.1 and need the memory space, due to this being a short game that takes up 1.15 MB of memory.
